Jamilah My Explorer

I almost can’t believe that in a week it will be a year since my baby Jamilah was born.

In celebration we are hosting a Dora the Explorer themed party, she gets excited whenever she hears any of those Dora songs and even I already know them by heart. How could I not it’s all we watching these days, I sometimes find myself singing ‘backpack backpack’ and ‘we did it, we did it, we did it YEAH, oh we did it’ at my desk whilst coding... ahh the joys of motherhood.

Jamilah was born on Thursday 6th September at 9:50am it was an overcast day and the movie based on Steve Harvey's 2009 book Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man was on the TV in the labour room. I was in so much pain but excited still and when she was born I couldn’t stop saying Algamdulilah I must have said it about 10 times LOL and her father joined in, my gynaecologist and the midwife smiled. I sure they know that word all too well by now. Her daddy videoed the event but I’m writing this from memory because no-one ever forgets those precious memories.

In the 12 month since then there’s been countless unforgettable moments just like those. She was beautiful since day one and always had a smile on her face, the name we chose was so appropriate. We named her Jamilah after her dad’s late sister. Her 1st word was dada for daddy at 9 months At 11 months her vocabulary consist of Dora, Backpack, Up, Down, Daddy, Mummy and that’s in order of preference too LOL.

At 10 months she shocked us all when she got up and decided to start walking, since then she’s become quite the explorer herself.

Jamilah is so loved, I can’t imagine our life without her. May All Mighty Allah grant us many more years together as a family Insha Allah and may she always be the coolness of our eyes. May she stay strong and healthy and may she grow up to be a good muslim of pure heart and the best character. May she surround herself with nothing but good Insha Allah Ameen.

Here's my latest set, I am inlove with this bag (It's from guess BTW), wish I could have it and I am not even hinting - my husband does not read my blog I dont think he even really knows what a blog is lol, and he is the only one that would buy me a bag that expensive.

Anyways love the bag and the top I am hoping to make this top myself soon, I'll be sure to keep all of you posted on the outcome. I plan to pair it with jeans the way I did here.

Love the look, hope you do too.

Reaching for My Dream

Hello lovelies.

Ramadaan Kareem to my Muslim readers may you have a blessed Ramadan Insha Allah.

I know it’s been a while and many of you have been asking me on BBM and email when I’ll be blogging again but I have just been waaay to busy these days.

Please accept my apology, in my defence though I told you I am a busy girl

So to add to the lunacy I have I have taken on yet another endeavour, however it is something I’ve wanted to do for the longest time.

I have enrolled to study FASHION DESIGN & GARMENT CONSTRUCTION

Since I can remember I have been designing my own dresses for EID. (it’s always a dress those of you who know me know that I seldom wear pants. I’m a lady like that!!) My dear mother would construct the garment for me and when she gave up on my crazy complicated designs there was always my Aunty Weyah who deserves a post on her own BTW for all the dresses she’s made me through the years matric ball and wedding dress included.

So some time close to the end of June I started googling part time courses in fashion design and to my surprise not many popped up.
Be as it may I settled with a school ‘INTEC’ was the chosen one, as the distance learning feature was favourable to me. I walked in there set up a payment plan and refused to put off my dream once more Algamdulilah:)

The qualification will take me 2 years but we gotta start somewhere right. My daddy always says Rome wasn’t built in a day.

It’s always been a hobby of mine, I am so passionate about this and can go on and on forever about how badly I have been wanting this.
Fact is it is here! I am ecstatic! Life is good!

Wish me luck and if you have a dream that you keep putting off, don’t!
Go for it, NOW!!!

Weigh in Week 1

As-salamu alaykum beauties, so this morning was my 1st weigh in and Alhamdulilah week 1’s weight loss stands at 2kgs. I have to admit that I had lost more weight during the week but gained it all back yesterday as I gave myself the day off since it was Mother’s Day (couldn’t resist the treats). Happy belated mother’s day to all mothers by the way.

This week’s goal is to lose 3.4kgs I know that I am going to have to be very, very good to achieve that goal and will have to do some serious exercising.
I found that during the week I am very good with my diet but weekends are my weakness as there is so much more temptation around, with weekend take-outs, Sunday lunches and their like.

Before and After Inspiration of the Week:
Beautiful transformation…

Celebrity Inspiration of the Week:
None other than my favourite gal Kourtney Kardashian

Losing weight is hard work and lots of dedication. Hope to be 3.4 lighter next week this time Insha Allah.

Seeing Jacquard

I know, I know, I said I would put a hold on all clothing shopping for a while, but the CBD is cold and rainy today lovely weather Alhumdulilah however I am not dressed the part (Note to self: Make time to plan outfits for work).
So off I dash to Mr Price who happens to be right across the road from my office building (sometimes a blessing sometimes a curse) to get myself something warm to cover up with.
From the top rail a gorgeous jacquard cardigan was calling my name. Not very practical for work but perfect for lazy Sundays…I was inlove.

I always find it very difficult to leave Mr Price without an accessory or two so I got me some multistrand faux pearls, a twisted ring stack and gloves too. Here are some pics of my latest buys.

Point Four Score!!!

Pleasantly surprised that this morning I am point four lighter if things keep going this way I am well on my way to a trimmer me YAY!!!

I have to admit I was super hungry last night as I lay in bed, watching yet another episode of Mickey Mouse Club House with Safaa aka boss of the TV and all things fun in our home LOL, and i credit that hunger to Zain eating my 2nd piece of haddock i planned on having. So I opted for some dried fruit as a snack and even felt guilty about that as it was not in the initial plan to eat anything after 7pm.
Supper was divine last night a refreshing change from the usual and even Zain enjoyed it Alhamdulilah.
We had steamed smoked haddock with some mixed veg consisting of baby marrows, carrots, green beans and broccoli, and the freshest Low GI whole-wheat bread. Wish I had a pic but have to admit I was way too hungry to take a pic all i could think of was devouring that beautiful meal.

I have decided to cook healthy at least twice a week for the rest of the family too Insha Allah since even my Safaa enjoyed the steamed haddock for her we just added some mashed potatoes though.
Needless to say my 1st day went very well I have to say i hope to have many more healthy eating days like yesterday.
Life is good Alhamdulilah :)

Old Me New Me

I am not changing myself because the old me isn’t good enough I am changing the old me simply because the new me could be better.

Getting on the scale this morning I had the biggest shock ever. #somanykilos!!! I have never been this heavy and have to admit I would never want anyone to know that I am this heavy at least not until I have lost a good couple of kgs.

I just discovered this weekend that most of cloths do not fit anymore and realise that i keep buying bigger sizes. So i vow today to stop buying cloths no matter what up until i have at least lost half of my goal, I have asked hubby to make sure of this and to not fall for my persuasive tricks in moments of weakness.
My quest is this: To shed these unwanted kilos i have not given myself a time frame for this yet and don’t think that i will Allah knows best.
Why would I like to do this?
·       To look and feel my age again
·       To fit into those results of expensive splurges I have hanging in my closet
·       To be healthy and strong for my kids and hubby
·       To feel attractive and confident
·       To look good for my husband again
·       To be a good example and inspiration to my daughters.
·       To have healthy pregnancies in the future
·       To feel good inside
So here goes day one of and hopefully not so long journey Insha Allah. I pray that the almighty guides me through this, keep, me focused and makes it easy breezy like only Allah can J
Before and after inspiration of the week: This girl looks so much more confident on her after pic...
Looking good = Feeling good= Projecting good
Celebrity Inspiration of the week:
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this girl and fits me perfectly as she has two kids like yours truly and looks great and super fashionable, I however would like to use her fashion only as inspiration and incorporate a hijab and a few alterations here and there to cover up as a true Muslimah should J
MINIMUM EXPOSURE MAXIMUM STYLE ;)

So here goes. Here’s to a stronger, happier healthier me J

Welcome to my blog

As-salamu alaykum all and welcome to my blog. This blog has been a loooong way coming but as life has it I am a mommy, daughter, wife, big sister and business intelligence consultant all wrapped in one Alhamdulilah.

The blog initially was to showcase the things I love, focusing primarily on trendy stylist modest fashion and inspiring both me and other young Muslimahs to protect their outer beauty.
This blog will continue its cause as well as expose my thoughts, ideas and opinions of it all but wait there’s more…

After having two babies in two years Alhamdulilah merged with many many meals on the go and impulsive late night snack runs to our 24 hour Macdonalds with hubby I find myself being way overweight and needing to shed some weight, well lots of weight LOL. So I decided to include my weight loss journey into this blog.

Hope you like
